Getting More From Your Pizza Sauce

Getting More From Your Pizza Sauce

We’re singing the praises of one of the best-loved sauces on American menus. With new research now reporting that 65% of consumers have eaten a pizza in the past week, it’s time that we help you get more from pizza sauce in your kitchen.

Not surprising, pizza is the king of Italian entrees. Datassentials’ survey of Italian menus says that pizza is on 88% of those menus followed by menu mentions of marinara, parmigiana and lasagna. Additionally, 46% of consumers saying that they order the same sauce and toppings every time they order.

Yet, pizza sauce deserves respect for its easy use in many other applications ranging from a dip to a spread. Beyond pizza, 14% of pizza sauce usage is on sandwiches ranging from meatball and chicken Parmesan subs, Italian hoagies and cheesesteak.

Another 8% of the time it is used for dipping pizza bread, breadsticks, garlic bread or knots and as a filling for Stromboli. For fried appetizers, pizza sauce is ideal for dipping mozzarella sticks, cheese curds and beer nuggets (chunks of deep-fried pizza dough that pairs well with beer).
